Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
