Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series following the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another player in the world that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.
Toronto claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
